The Story: The Lady in the Van tells the poignant, funny, and heartwarming true story of Miss Mary Shepherd, a quirky woman who lived in a van and took up residence in playwright Allan Bennett's Garden — originally for three months but stayed for fifteen years.

Characters We’re Casting:
- Miss Mary Shepherd: Female, about 65 years old, doesn’t care for social graces - Alan Bennett 1: Male, 30s-40s, the author’s public persona, polite and middle-class - Alan Bennett 2: Male, 30s-40s (can be younger), the author’s inner persona, a more direct version of Alan - Pauline: Female, upwardly mobile neighbour of Alan Bennett - Rufus: Male, Pauline’s husband and Alan Bennett’s neighbour - Mam (Alan Bennett’s mother): Female, in her 60s, warm and motherly - Underwood: Male, in his 50s, a dilapidated figure - Leo Fairchild: Male, in his 50s-70s, the concerned brother of Miss Mary Shepherd
